Title     BEAM: Building Educators’ Skills in Adolescent Mental Health Online Self-Paced Course for CEWA staff

Rationale     To empower secondary educators with the necessary ‘know how’ and confidence to support students and their mental health concerns.
     
Content     BEAM offers a two-fold approach to addressing student mental health. The self-paced online training provides you with comprehensive knowledge, practical strategies, and resources to support students effectively. Additionally, the unique peer coaching component connects you with a community of peers who understand the challenges in your role, offering invaluable support and shared experience. Essential topics include: Your role: Understand your role and nurturing student wellbeing within the school environment. Identifying Students in Need: Learn how to recognise and respond to mental health struggles. Taking Action: Build skills and confident in talking to students about their mental health. Managing Yourself and Others: Gain confidence in nurturing helping relationships with students. Maintain Your Wellbeing: Feel confident in your response to addressing student mental health.

Who Should Attend     Secondary educators, year coordinators, deputy principals, pastoral leaders.
     
Additional Comments     1. Introductory group session 14th May 3.30pm - 4.30pm (online). 2. BEAM self-directed modules and peer consultation to be completed between week 5 and week 10 of Term 2. (at your own pace 6.5 hours in total time) 3. Conclusion group session 26th June 3.30pm - 5.00pm (online). This registration will automatically register you for the whole program. Please ensure you are free for both Online dates. More information will be provided for the Self paced modules. Please note that this course is also subsidised by the CEWA Office.
     
Outcomes     On completion participants will: • Identify, navigate and manage students with mental health challenges, • Understand your role in supporting student mental health and wellbeing, with activities to identify internal and external supports within their specific school and community context, • Access i) clear and practical strategies to support students, and ii) BEAM and Black Dog Institute evidence-based resources to assist their management of students’ mental health, • Build your confidence to deal with student mental health.
