Rationale |
|
Planning a response to a suspected suicide is an integral part of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of your school community an enabling schools to continue to function which responding and recovering.
This 4 hour training will complement your school’s existing incident management plan and relevant CEWA guidelines.

Content |
|
Postvention planning provides the framework, tasks, roles and responsibilities of the Incident Response Team (ERT) for a school-wide coordinated response addressing:
• Communication and coordination to maintain stability while protecting against further suicidal behaviour
• Provision of safety and supports to both staff and students
• Strategies for identifying individuals most impacted
• Approaches to empower students, staff and the broader community in their own recovery

Please be aware that this course may be subject to cancellation if interest is low. In the event
of cancellation, registered participants will be directed to enrol in the next available date.
This planning process can raise conversations about previous traumas that have impacted
your school community. For this reason, we will organise a time to discuss this further and
identify ways we can ensure you and your team are supported in this process. It is important
that attendance is voluntary and that all attendees are encouraged to consider their own
wellbeing in attending this workshop and engaging with the content that will involve in depth
discussions about suicide response.
Registration will close 2 weeks prior to allow for check in.

Outcomes |
|
On completion participants will:
•• Have an effective suicide postvention plan for your school
• Understand the steps to minimise the impact of exposure and reduce the effects of suicide transmission.
• Able to ensure accurate information is provided to reduce misinformation and dispel rumours.
• Able to identify those affected to facilitate support-seeking and longer-term recovery.
• Be aware of relevant resources
