Title     Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention 2 Day Workshop
     
Target Audience     Catholic Schools
     
Rationale     Gatekeeper training teaches individuals who have regular contact with others in their community to recognise and respond to people at potential risk of suicide, to support those who are bereaved by suicide or those who have lived experience.
     
Content     Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention is a two-day workshop designed for professionals and para-professionals in the human services whose roles bring them into regular contact with people at risk of suicide. This workshop aims to help participants: • Gain an understanding of the problem of suicide • Identify suicide risk • Provide a framework for risk assessment and intervention • Develop appropriate intervention skills • Understand the limits to confidentiality • Understand the importance of consultation • Gain an understanding of self-harming behaviour • Gain an understanding of the link between mental disorders and suicidal behaviours • Understand the importance of postvention Participants are encouraged to consider the suitability of the course content and the potential personal impact on themselves before registering Due to the sensitivity of the content covered, consideration should be given to the potential personal impact on participants prior to registering.¿¿ Gatekeeper maintains a ‘not right now’ option.¿ If you have been impacted by suicide, personally and/or professionally, please consider your readiness to attend this workshop. Who Should Attend     Catholic Education staff who are working directly with students. School leadership, pastoral staff, teachers, teaching assistants, nurses, psychologists, counsellors.

Outcomes     On completion participants will: • Recognise someone at risk for suicide, • Intervene with those at risk; and, • Refer them to an appropriate resource.
