Commencement Date: Beginning of Term 3, 2025 (with the possibility of an earlier start from Monday 16 June 2025)
Majella Catholic School is seeking a passionate and committed Year 1 Classroom Teacher to cover a maternity leave position commencing at the beginning of Term 3, 2025. The successful applicant may be able to begin earlier, from Monday 16 June 2025, depending on availability.
This is a full-time teaching role in a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment, supported by two dedicated Education Assistants. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality learning program aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum, catering for the diverse needs of students.
We are seeking a teacher who:
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to Catholic education and the ethos of the school
- Has experience or a strong interest in early childhood or junior primary teaching
- Creates a supportive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment
- Uses evidence-based strategies to support literacy and numeracy development
- Collaborates effectively with education assistants, specialist staff, and parents
- Values cultural diversity and promotes positive relationships within a multicultural setting
About Majella School: Majella is a single-stream, co-educational primary school with approximately 250 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Situated in the northern Perth suburb of Balga, the school serves a vibrant and highly multicultural community, with over 85% of students from Language Backgrounds Other Than English (LBOTE). Majella also hosts an onsite Intensive English Centre (IEC) for students in Years 1–6 who are developing their English language skills. The school is strongly committed to trauma-informed practices and the holistic wellbeing of students.
Position Duration: This maternity leave replacement position is anticipated to continue until the end of Term 2, 2026.
Selection Criteria
- Commitment to the ethos and values of Catholic education, with the ability to integrate Gospel values into teaching practice.
- Experience or demonstrated ability in teaching Year 1 or junior primary, with a sound understanding of early childhood development.
- Ability to plan and deliver differentiated, engaging programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum.
- Knowledge and use of evidence-based strategies in early literacy and numeracy instruction.
- Capacity to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment using trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Education Assistants, and families.
- Experience in or commitment to working in a multicultural school setting.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to the broader school community.
Qualifications Required
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification.
- Be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
- Hold or be working towards Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School through Catholic Education WA (CEWA).
- Meet statutory requirements, including a Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance.
