Position Details

Social Worker – Part-time (0.4 FTE), Ongoing

Our Lady of Mercy Primary School is a Kindy to Year 6, double stream, co-educational Catholic primary school located in Girrawheen. Our Lady of Mercy Primary takes great pride in our traditions, multiculturalism and strong Mercy and Gospel values. We provide a caring school community that nurtures the integrity and gentleness of each individual.  

Our school is committed to improving learning outcomes for all students with a particular emphasis on early intervention.  The building of staff capacity and high levels of staff collaboration are key elements of the school culture.  We are seeking a dedicated, passionate and committed Social Worker.  The applicant will support a culture in which every student is recognised as having the ability to learn.  The applicant must be a positive and enthusiastic person and be willing to work as part of a team.  The Social Worker is responsible for the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting student wellbeing through   and working with students and families requiring support. The Social Worker works as part of a team to empower and enable all students to flourish in an inclusive, engaging and mutually respectful environment.

This position is 2 days per week and days are negotiable.


Selection Criteria


The successful applicant will:

- Be prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties
- Partner with students, families and key staff to enhance student well-being
- Adhere to policy and procedure in the delivery of student support services
- Prioritise and advocate for the well-being of students, prioritising a culture of child safety within the school
- Work in collaboration with key stakeholders to develop and facilitate preventative programs, exploring, networking and enhancing relationships with internal parties and external organisations to support the delivery of programs and support services
- Proactively communicate with key stakeholders to build on the delivery of individual and collective student well-being programs, including active contribution in relevant meetings
- Deliver a best practice approach to intervention, including individual and collective counselling methodologies
- Create, promote and design well-being presentations and initiatives to support and upskill the school community
- Possess energy and enthusiasm to be part of a dynamic team, building a Catholic school community, and a willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Display excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate a committed and enthusiastic approach to developing positive and constructive relationships across the school community
- Demonstrate patience and compassion
- Experience working with EAL-D children and children from trauma backgrounds is advantageous


Qualifications Required

- An appropriate tertiary qualification - preferably a degree in Social Work or similar
- Current Working With Children Check Card
- National Police History Check as issued by the Department of Education Western Australia
- Accreditation to Work in a Catholic school or be willing to work towards this accreditation
