Position Details

Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a full-time, ongoing Learning Support Teacher to become an integral part of the College’s Learning Support Area, commencing 1 January 2025.
 
As a newly created position, we are seeking a vibrant, passionate, dedicated and confident individual who is committed to helping those students who require differentiated instruction and curriculum, to reach their full potential.

We invite applications from experienced educators who excel in curriculum differentiation, supporting diverse learning needs, styles, difficulties, and disabilities, to help students achieve academic outcomes.  
 
The Learning Support Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:

  • Implementing effective teaching strategies tailored to meet the diverse physical, social and intellectual needs of students, providing differentiated instruction in small group settings to achieve specific learning outcomes.
  • Fostering a stimulating, encouraging and inclusive classroom environment designed to support student growth.
  • Planning and programming for classes to promote learning and involvement.
  • Providing targeted support to Year 11 and 12 students, assisting with curriculum work across various courses.
  • Teaching at least one lower school foundation class, focusing on a modified curriculum for lower-ability students within the teacher’s major or minor subject area.
  • Assessing the performance of students in accordance with College procedures and where required, maintaining contact with parents regarding the performance and wellbeing of students.
  • Meeting the deadlines set by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive.


Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to teach across all year levels and various Learning Areas, displaying a comprehensive understanding of the current Western Australian Curriculum.

The successful applicant will also hold a tertiary qualification for Secondary Education. It is advantageous for the applicant to hold demonstrated experience within the HASS, Science or English Learning Areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent.

Terms of Employment

  • Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
  • Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools.
  • Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training.
