Position Details:

Clontarf Aboriginal College is a co-educational Catholic CARE (Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education) School in Perth that caters for Aboriginal students in Years 7-12.  We provide a safe and nurturing environment for educationally marginalised students from metropolitan, rural and remote locations. Our on-site boarding house provides a unique setting for students to develop lifelong skills whilst accessing a quality education.

We are currently seeking an experienced educator for the position of Head of Learning Area – Health and Physical Education. Heads of Learning Areas are leaders within their specific curriculum related area of the College and responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of student differentiation from Years 7 to 12.  This person will play a key role in assisting the College to consolidate its Vision for Learning. The successful applicant will have experience planning and delivering modified programmes in Health Education (7-12) and Health, Physical & Outdoor Education – Foundation (11-12) as well as experience leading colleagues in this learning area.  

The Head of Learning Area is required to directly and positively influence the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school. The position is one that requires leadership in relation to curriculum initiative, the learning and teaching process and co-ordination of exciting programmes which facilitate and engage student learning.  The person in the position should have a visionary approach to learning and an acute interest in current and future initiatives in curriculum including areas such as:

•    Enhancing challenge and achievement in student learning
•    Learning styles
•    Pedagogy
•    Digital technology and its uses in curriculum
•    Personalisation and differentiation
•    Social and emotional wellbeing

The Head of Learning Area – Health and Physical Education should be able to provide clear direction, enthuse and motivate a team of teaching and support staff to maximise curriculum delivery appropriate to the specific enrichment needs of students.

The Head of Learning Area – Health and Physical Education should be a role model as an educator and professional learner, and a mentor for staff. They should display the qualities of a good leader, manager and administrator that are congruent with the mission and values of the College.

Selection Criteria:

ESSENTIAL:
- Be prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
- Appropriate experience, knowledge and skills to lead the Health and Physical Education program at the College.
- Be an exemplary, enthusiastic educator who works collaboratively with their colleagues to plan for and implement teaching programs that improve student outcomes through effective teaching which considers the individual learning needs of students.
- Demonstrated ability as an instructional leader with outstanding classroom pedagogy that creates a supportive and safe environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Be able to maintain to ensure safe working environment and procedures.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- To be working toward or have completed Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School and Accreditation for Middle Leaders in a Catholic School.
- Trauma informed practice experience.
- Hold or have a willingness to obtain a current WA driver’s license (LR) and PTD auth
