Position Details
Cafeteria Assistant – Part-time, Temporary
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a part-time, temporary Cafeteria Assistant to become an integral part of the College’s Cafeteria team.
We are seeking a friendly and welcoming individual who will assist in food preparation, serving, maintaining a clean and organised cafeteria environment, as well as ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, whilst working collaboratively with the Chef Manager and cafeteria team to provide nutritious and appealing meals to staff and students.
The Cafeteria Assistant will be in attendance 5 days per week: Monday's to Friday's 10:00am to 2:00pm for 10 weeks in Term 1, 2025.
The Cafeteria Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:
• Assisting in the preparation of menu items, following recipes and portion control guidelines.
• Washing, chopping, slicing and preparing ingredients under the guidance of the Chef Manager.
• Using correct chemicals on food preparation area and kitchen equipment, adhering to food, health and safety standards.
• Serving and attending to students and staff in a professional, welcoming and friendly manner.
• Handling cash and eftpos transactions, ensuring efficient and accurate use of the cash register.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational and time management skills, prioritising tasks effectively, whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
Demonstrated experience in a cafeteria, restaurant, food serving or school setting, is highly desirable.
Qualifications Required
Terms of Employment:
• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
• Hold a current National Police Clearance from the Department of Education.
• Hold or be working towards an Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.
• Annually complete the online Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training and any other CEWA mandatory training.

• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, enabling harmonious and positive relationships with colleagues and students.
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and confident in different situations to provide assistance across a variety of tasks.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Strong customer service principles and practice.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods.
• Previous experience in a cafeteria, restaurant, or food service setting.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and safety guidelines.
