Grounds and Maintenance Person – Full-time, Ongoing

St John’s School in Rangeway, Geraldton, is a single stream, co-educational primary school educating students from Kindergarten to Year Six.  We pride ourselves on catering for the individual needs of all students in a safe and supportive environment.  Our Vision Statement, Every Story Every Opportunity, provides a solid foundation for the work we undertake, permeating through all aspects of school life.  A strong sense of community is evident with the school, parish and families all working in collaboration in the best interests of the students.  Early intervention, diverse specialist learning areas, an Enrichment Program and Drumbeat are some of the initiatives embedded at St John’s School.

We are currently seeking a full time Grounds and Maintenance person.  The successful applicant will be responsible for actively assisting with the day-to-day maintenance of buildings and facilities, general gardening and turf management within the grounds of St John’s School.  


Selection Criteria

We are seeking a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Grounds and Maintenance person who has the necessary knowledge, skills, ability and professional desire to demonstrate:

•    A preparedness to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
•    Experience in horticulture/grounds keeping, including practical working knowledge of gardening and turf equipment and machinery.
•    Ability to undertake aspects of building and facility maintenance.
•    Appropriate interpersonal communication skills and an organised and methodical team approach.
•    Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with work colleagues.
•    Must be physically fit, mobile and have good observational and safety skills.
•    Willing to assist with the set up and pack up of on-site and off-site events for the school.


Qualifications Required

Applicants must have the following:

•    Any qualifications/training and or experience related to this role would be highly desirable including certification in using power tools, chainsaws and safe handling of chemicals.
•    On appointment, obtain a valid Working with Children Card.
•    On appointment, a current National Police History Check as issued by the Department of Education Western Australia must also be included.
•    Accreditation to Work at a Catholic School, completed or working towards, is highly desirable.
