Early Years Teaching Position – Full-time, Temporary

Sacred Heart Primary School Highgate invites applications for an outstanding, Early Years Classroom Teaching position for 2025. There is a strong possibility of this then becoming an Ongoing position.

Sacred Heart Primary School in Highgate is a Catholic, single stream Primary School for boys and girls from Pre Kindergarten to Year 6. Sacred Heart is an inner city school community, and enjoys a positive relationship with the Sacred Heart, Highgate Parish.

Sacred Heart enjoys a strong sense of community and belonging, and this resonates with staff, students and families, having an active role in our school.

A strong focus on Digital Technologies and an award winning whole school STEM design process exists, and is integrated in classrooms that are supported by contemporary furnishings.  A 1:1 iPad Programme operates in Years 3-6, and learning in the Early Years is supported by iPads.

Currently, Specialist teachers enrich student learning in Music, Visual Art, Italian, Science, and Physical Education. Founded in 1897 by the Our Lady of the Mission Sisters, the Sacred Heart School motto of Faith, Truth and Loyalty to Gospel values, embodies the tradition of lifelong learning for the students.


Selection Criteria

Applicants are requested to address the following criteria within their application:

  • Have a fluent understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standards, and the Western Australian Curriculum, and know how how these are applied in an Early Years setting.
  • Have an extensive knowledge of Early Childhood pedagogy and current educational theories, including play based learning, explicit teaching and inquiry- based learning.
  • Possess the skills and personal qualities necessary to build trusting and authentic relationships with other staff, all students and their parents.
  • Have experience and expertise in providing engaging and differentiated learning experiences for all students.
  • Be able to create relevant, child-centered teaching and learning programmes, and learning environments that reflect the needs and interests of each child.
  • Possess strong communication and exceptional IT skills, and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate an active interest in your personal journey as a lifelong learner.
  • Be an active member of the Catholic Church.


Qualifications Required

  • Possess a relevant Early Childhood Education teaching tertiary qualification.
  • Have achieved Accreditation to Teach Religious Education (or be working towards this).
