Position Details

Social Worker 

Mary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School is a co-educational primary school catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with an enrolment of approximately 450 students. The school enjoys a strong connection with the Mary MacKillop Parish, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community that prioritises pastoral care and celebrates the acceptance of all cultural and social backgrounds.

At Mary MacKillop, we provide an education that emphasises the individual growth of each child through a wide range of opportunities. The academic program is designed to cater for the diverse needs of all students and includes a comprehensive range of targeted support initiatives.

The St Joseph Centre is an integral part of the school, providing specialised support for students with diverse needs, including those with disabilities and social emotional challenges. Teachers collaborate closely with the Centre to ensure that programs are differentiated, responsive, and inclusive.

We are currently seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced social worker to join our friendly and professional team on a temporary, part time basis from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. In this role, you will:
•  Work alongside another social worker as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
•  Provide individual and group interventions for students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, mental health or family challenges.
•  Partner with teachers, school leadership, families/carers and external agencies to develop and implement support plans, facilitate referrals, and contribute to school processes for managing student concerns.
•  Work proactively to reduce barriers to learning and engagement, fostering protective, strength-based relationships across the school community.
•  Support the monitoring of student wellbeing and promote the school-wide implementation of the Berry Street Education Model to enhance wellbeing, resilience, equity and inclusion.
•  Contribute to the school’s crisis management response as needed.

Selection Criteria

As the school Social Worker, you will:
•  Support the Catholic ethos in the performance of your duties.
•  Hold a recognised qualification in Social Work and be eligible for membership with the AASW.
•  Bring experience working within a school or child focused setting.
•  Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and advocacy skills.
•  Be confident working within trauma informed and inclusive education frameworks.
•  Demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills.
•  Awareness of the CEWA Child Safe Framework and Mental Health Practitioner Guidelines. 

Qualifications Required

The successful applicant will be required to have:
•  Qualification in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the AASW.
•  Training in the Berry Street Eduactional Model, URSTRONG and Kimochis is highly desirable.
•  Undergo Mandatory Reporting Training
•  Acquire and/or maintain relevant Accreditation requirements to work in a Catholic School.
