Position Details
Upper Primary Teacher – Full-time, Ongoing
This is a full-time ongoing position commencing 1 January 2025 and is to be as class teacher for Year 6 students. An Educational Assistant is employed for 0.5FTE to assist with the learning programme in the classroom. Interested applicants have an opportunity to work in a unique, challenging, yet very rewarding, school environment and as part of a cohesive and united school staff.
Majella Catholic School is a single stream co-educational school with 250 students from Kindergarten - Year 6. There is also an Intensive English Centre located onsite catering for the needs of students with low English proficiency across Years 1-6. Located in the northern Perth suburb of Balga, the school has a varied, multicultural population with a majority of students coming from backgrounds where English is not their first language (LBOTE 85% plus). The school uses trauma informed practices as a means of supporting student needs.
The successful applicant will be required to utilise their interpersonal skills and abilities to ensure student engagement is present, as well as negotiating effectively for the same purpose. Strong communication skills are therefore required, as is an ability to engage students with a wide range of abilities in their learning.
Selection Criteria
We are seeking an energetic and dynamic educator who is able to demonstrate:
- Support for the Catholic ethos within the school.
- Excellent classroom management skills based on restorative and supportive practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of academic abilities within the one class.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and a preparedness to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and the parish.
- A current understanding of trauma informed practices, or a willingness to learn through PD and training these practices, and to implement where required.
- Expertise in how to integrate ICT across the curriculum.
Qualifications Required
A relevant four year tertiary qualification.
