Position Details

Aboriginal Teaching Assistant – Full-time, Temporary

We are seeking a full-time Aboriginal Teaching Assistant, commencing on the 1st of January 2025. The Aboriginal Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students to enhance their learning outcomes within the College.
 
The Aboriginal Teacher Assistant provides cultural advice and support to students, staff, and the wider community to increase the understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal people, histories, cultures, and spirituality.


Selection Criteria

•    Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of educational programs.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on different levels in a variety of settings, including our community members, teaching staff and other professionals within our college.
•    Ability to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
•    Strong knowledge and connection to the local Aboriginal culture and the ability to promote it within the school community.  
•    Ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
•    Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
•    Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
