Position Details

Groundsperson - Expression of Interest


Mater Dei College is looking for an expression of interest for a Groundsperson position. The College is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised and experienced Groundsperson to maintain the aesthetic and functional integrity of our college grounds on an adhoc basis. This position will be to cover a staff member when leave is booked in or to cover a staff member who is out on sick leave.


Selection Criteria


The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational and time management skills, with the proven ability to communicate effectively, whilst supporting the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team.

Demonstrated experience in a school or a trades environment will be viewed favourably.

The Groundsperson will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:

•  Undertaking various maintenance and grounds requests and ensure urgent and adhoc requests are fulfilled within a timely manner.
•  Manage maintenance requests through the maintenance helpdesk in the absence of the Property Manager.
•  Provide and maintain a safe working evironment, ensuring compliance with occupational, health and safety legislation.
•  Ensure College grounds are maintained in a clean, healthy, tidy state that provides staff and students with a safe external learning environment.
•  Assist in setting up of venues for College activities which may include but is not limited to, movement of furniture, lighting requirements and lock up procedures.


Qualifications Required

Terms of Employment:

•  Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
•  Hold a current National Police Clearance from the Department of Education.
•  Annually complete the online Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training.
•  Hold or be working towards an Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.

Highly Desirables:

•  Relevant experience in a grounds/maintenance team.
•  Experience of working in a team environment with a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
•  Strong problem solving skills, ability to prioritise with a high level of time management and organisational skills.
