Position Details:
St Brigid’s Primary School, Middle Swan, is currently seeking an Aboriginal Teacher Assistant to join our team of committed educators for the 2022 school year. The successful applicant will be working in a variety of year levels, with a fluid timetable which allows the needs of the students to be met. The successful candidate will be asked to:

• Support Aboriginal students

• Support the integration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures Cross-Curriculum Priority

• Engage and connect with parents and community

• Work with classroom teachers in the school learning environment

Selection Criteria:

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and innovative Primary School educators with the following attributes:

• Support the teacher in the delivery of teaching and learning programs, including individual and small group sessions

• Provide Aboriginal cultural advice as required

• Provide student pastoral care support

• Liaise with and support parents and carers

• Engage and connect with key stakeholders in the community

• Be fully supportive of the objectives and ethos of Catholic education

• Flexibility to work independently and in a team

• Sound written and oral communication skills

• Competency in the use of ICT

• A willingness to be actively involved in and supportive of all school events and initiatives     

Qualifications Required:

• Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational qualification for this role as per Section 50D Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

• The successful applicant would need to be willing to work towards gaining Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School, if not already acquired.

• Experience in working with children.

• Minimum Certificate III or Certificate IV in Children’s Services or Teacher Assistant qualification or equivalent would be desirable but not essential.
