Position Details

Our Lady of Mercy Primary School is a Kindy to Year 6, double stream, co-educational Catholic primary school located in Girrawheen. Our Lady of Mercy Primary takes great pride in our traditions, multiculturalism and strong Mercy and Gospel values. We provide a caring school community that nurtures the integrity and gentleness of each individual.  

Our school is committed to improving learning outcomes for all students with a particular emphasis on early intervention. The building of staff capacity and high levels of staff collaboration are key elements of the school culture. We are seeking a dedicated, passionate and committed teacher with a thorough understanding of Explicit Instruction pedagogical practice and the Science of Reading. The successful candidate will support a culture in which every student is recognised as having the ability to learn and where learning and engagement are actively promoted through quality teaching practice.  Applicants must be positive, enthusiastic and work collaboratively as part of a team.

The teaching component of this position will involve the teaching of literacy and numeracy to a small class of students working on set IEP goals. The role will also include writing IEPs, supporting teachers in the development of IEP and EAL/D plans, and the submission of funding applications for SWD and EAL/D. The applicant will work with the support of Assistant Principals in elements of this role. The role will require the applicant to work on professionally developing staff and supporting our school in being an inclusive and culturally aware community. The Instructional Coaching component of the role will involve supporting staff to embed and refine their explicit instruction teaching practice.


Selection Criteria

The successful applicants will:

  • be fully supportive of the objectives and ethos of Catholic education and have a strong identity with the Catholic faith.
  • possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build authentic relationships across the school community.
  • have experience in working with children with special needs to achieve learning outcomes.
  • have experience in Explicit teaching practice and the use of engagement norms.
  • hold high expectations for student learning and effectively differentiate for all learners.
  • have previous experience as an Instructional coach.
  • have EALD Coordinator experience(Managing EAL/D plans, working with teachers and funding).
  • have Support Coordinator experience( Managing IEPs, working with teachers and funding).
  • be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities to build a strong Catholic school community.

An understanding of trauma informed practice and the Berry Street Education Model, is considered to be advantageous.


Qualifications Required

  • 4 Year Trained.
  • Current Working With Children Check Card.
  • Full TRBWA registration.
  • Accreditation to Teach RE in a Catholic school.
