Position details:

Clontarf Aboriginal College is a co-educational Catholic CARE (Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education) secondary boarding school for First Nations students in Years 7-12, located in Waterford, Western Australia. In the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice, the College is a place of learning and understanding that respects and celebrates Aboriginal culture and spirituality. With an on-site boarding house, students are provided with a unique environment in which to develop lifelong skills while accessing a quality education. The College remains committed to nurturing and empowering young people to contribute positively to their communities.

The Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated First Nations Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role is integral to supporting student learning and wellbeing while fostering cultural engagement across the College community.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support the College Leadership and Teaching Teams in delivering culturally appropriate learning programs.
• Build positive relationships with families, community members and external agencies to promote engagement in school programs and initiatives.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:
• Strong connection to local Aboriginal culture and ability to promote it within the school community.
• Effective communication skills with staff, students, and families.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Be supportive of the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
• Accreditation to work in a Catholic school (or willingness to obtain).
• Willingness to obtain the following:
                - National Police Check (https://www.education.wa.edu.au/ncchc)

Highly Desirable:
• Experience working in a school setting and with Aboriginal youth.
• Certificate IV approved qualification (or currently working towards).
• First Aid and CPR Certificates including anaphylaxis and asthma training (or willingness to undertake such training).

It is a genuine requirement for this position that the successful candidate be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander as per section 50D of the equal opportunity act 1984.
